Montreal the City of Saints

Montreal is known for its European-inspired architecture, green spaces, and clean streets. The city has a strong focus on urban planning and environmental sustainability, which contributes to its overall beauty.
Montreal is nicknamed "The City of Saints" because of the many Catholic saints that are honored and celebrated there. Today, the name is still widely used, and is a reminder of the city's rich religious heritage and cultural history.

A New Kind of Tournament

Montreal Scrabblefest is an exciting new style tournament that immerses players in the vibrant culture of Montreal while offering them a 14 game main event in a downtown hotel.

Outside the playing room, players will enjoy social events such as a welcome party at a downtown café, group dinners, social outings, and even a walking tour of Old Montreal.

Don't miss the chance to compete and explore the beautiful city of Montreal!

Convenient Travel to Montreal

Montreal is easily accessible by air or road, making it a convenient destination for travelers. The city is served by the Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL), which offers direct flights from major cities across North America and Europe. For those driving, Montreal is easily accessible from other major cities, such as Toronto, Ottawa, Boston, and New York City.

Montreal's Vibrant Cuisine

You can’t turn a corner in Montréal without hitting a cozy café, bustling restaurant, food truck or farmer’s market. With endless options for local and international cuisine, from cheap eats to fine dining, the only challenge is finding the time to explore all of them!

Focus on Fun

Friday Schedule

We begin the festivities with a welcome event at Café Sfouf (a local board game café) from 3-6pm. Players are welcome to have a coffee, a snack, and catch up with friends before tournament games begin.

Café Sfouf is located at 1250 Ontario St E, which is less than a 10 minute walk from the tournament venue.

The first three tournament games are played Friday evening, beginning at 730pm at the event hotel.

Saturday Schedule

7 games of Scrabble are set for Saturday, from 930am-6pm, with a 1.5 hour lunch break.

A large group dinner is planned at Le Jardin de Panos (https://www.lejardindepanos.com/), a Greek restaurant a 15min walk from the event hotel.

For those adventurous enough to continue on, Saturday night will feature an excursion into Montreal's famous night life, with dancing and dive bar karaoke planned.

Sunday Schedule

Sunday begins with the final four games of the Main Event, wrapping up by 2pm for those players who need to head home.

But for those who are sticking around, we'll head out on a walking tour of Old Montreal planned from 230-5pm.

Experience the history, architecture, culture, and food of some of Montreal's most exciting neighbourhoods. A group dinner may follow.

Monday Schedule

Monday begins with a group breakfast from 930-11am at Ginkgo Cafe & Bar (https://ginkgocafebar.ca/), a popular brunch spot serving eclectic Canadian fare in a chic, open room with lots of natural light, steps from the event hotel.

Then it's time for more Scrabble, with a 5 game late "brunch" bird from 11am-4pm.
